- The Tax Faculty
[Pretoria, 10 June 2024] - The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants on Monday 3 June 2024 announced the accreditation of The Tax Faculty as an academic provider of the Accounting Technician (NQF 5) qualification. This new accreditation enhances the available educational offerings and provides an invaluable opportunity for aspiring tax practitioners to gain the requisite post-school academic qualification and professional membership with SAICA necessary to register with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
A Pathway to Professional Excellence
The Accounting Technician qualification equips students with essential technical knowledge and practical skills required in the fields tax, accounting and business skills. This comprehensive qualification not only meets the minimum academic requirements set by SARS for registration as a tax practitioner but also ensures that graduates are well-prepared for the professional demands of the industry 4.0.
Enhanced Educational and Career Opportunities
Building on our current offering of the Tax Technician and Tax Professional occupational qualifications, the SAICA Accounting Technician (SA) qualification prepares students with a broader and more comprehensive skillset. The qualification offers various curriculum pathways dependent on the specific industry. The Tax Faculty aims to deliver the personal and business tax modules in conjunction with the core areas of financial management and accountancy. The qualification offers a comprehensive skillset to enable students to navigate the current changing tax practice impacted by digital disruption and AI, ensuring that graduates are well-versed in the core areas of tax, accounting, and enterprise management.
Benefits of the SAICA Accounting Technician Qualification
- Professional Recognition: Graduates will be eligible for registration with SARS as tax practitioners and can obtain membership with SAICA as AT(SA), or other RCBs provided they meet the required work experience.
- Comprehensive Skillset: The curriculum covers key areas such as financial management, tax compliance, financial statements, budgeting, and the use of accounting systems, providing graduates with the professional latitude to execute a wider scope of tasks and roles.
- Work-integrated Learning: AT(SA) is job related, application driven, and promotes the theory and practice of accountancy.
- Career Advancement: This qualification opens doors to numerous career opportunities in both the public and private sectors, enabling graduates to play crucial roles in financial management and strategic decision-making within their organisations. AT(SA) takes you on a progressive pathway that provides access to various routes to qualify for higher levels of competence, including becoming an Associate General Accountant (AGA(SA)).
Commitment to Professional Standards
The AT(SA) qualification and designation is underpinned by SAICA’s qualifying criteria and robust code of ethics. Members of AT(SA) will be subject to ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and adherence to international standards and codes of ethics, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the profession.
