So you want to be a tax professional? It's a great career choice, and there are plenty of ways to get ahead in the industry. Here at The Tax Faculty, we want to show students the most helpful and effective way to become successful tax professionals. In this article, we will discuss five tips that will set you on the path to becoming a tax professional.
The first step to becoming a tax professional is getting the proper education. There are many schools that offer taxation programmes, even online platforms with tax webinars and courses, but not all of them are created equal. Make sure to do your research and find a reputable school that can give you the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in the field.
One of the best ways to learn and grow in any profession is to find a mentor. A mentor is someone who can guide you, answer your questions, and help you navigate the industry. If you don't have anyone in mind, try reaching out to your school's alumni network or searching online for tax professionals in your area. Many mentors are happy to help budding tax professionals get their start in the field.
There are many professional organisations for tax professionals. Joining one of these organisations can give you access to resources, networking opportunities, and educational events. These organisations can also help you stay up-to-date on industry news and changes.
This can be done in a number of ways, such as working in a tax department of a company, volunteering with a tax-exempt organisation, or interning at an accounting firm. Getting experience will not only make you more knowledgeable and qualified, but it will also help you network and build relationships with other professionals in the field.
It is a statutory requirement to belong to an RCB and register with SARS as a tax practitioner if you are a person who:
Provides advice to another person with respect to the application of a tax Act, or completes or assists in the completion of returns.
You must meet the requirements of the RCB for registration with them as a tax practitioner.
RCBs are required to regulate your minimum qualifications, conduct, knowledge, and behavior in a specific manner thus protecting the interests of the taxpayers whom they represent.
The new requirements are also intended to improve the overall service and compliance of both taxpayers and tax practitioners.
By following these tips, you'll be on your way to becoming a successful tax professional. Just remember that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve your goals and build a rewarding career in taxation.
