Overview
Are you feeling stuck with technical tax questions or unsure where to find answers? The TaxCafé Discussion Forum offers an interactive, workshop-style video where you can “Ask Me Anything.” Carmen and the delegates collaborate to provide practical solutions and insights. Content is driven entirely by participants, ensuring a tailored experience focused on the most pressing issues tax professionals face. Topics include current eFiling challenges, tax return complications, and complex legal matters.
Video Content
This video explored a range of important tax topics, including:
- WCA/COIDA compliance is jeopardised when an IOD occurs before successful WCA registration, with portal failures risking the 7-day reporting duty.
- Crypto taxation is misclassified, particularly leverage trading (revenue) vs. long-term holds (capital) and collateralised loans (no disposal).
- VAT edge cases are mishandled, including going-concern zero-rating, export zero-rating evidence, and shelf-company registrations.
- Cross-border employment remains complex, especially around s10(1)(o)(ii), DTA residency, payroll location, and FTC.
- SARS verification requests are overbroad, demanding irrelevant documents and excessive bank statements.
- Tax directives and lump-sum treatments are inconsistent, with difficult GEPF support and timing mismatches.
- Debt relief rules are unclear, creating confusion between compromise vs. deferral and “temporary write-off” outcomes.
- PBO Section 18A and IT3(d) data are not aligning, causing missing receipts and donor pre-pop issues.
- eFiling and e@syFile platform instability is disrupting submissions, imports, and everyday processing.
