Tax professionals played a crucial role in rectifying tax returns that required correction, clarifying clients’ tax positions, and disputing tax liabilities.

Overview

Tax professionals played a crucial role in rectifying tax returns that required correction, clarifying clients’ tax positions, and disputing tax liabilities. It was of utmost importance that tax practitioners understood which remedy to use under various circumstances. They needed to be aware of the requirements for a VDP application and the case law available to support their submission. Making the right decision and following the correct procedural steps was challenging.

During this webinar, Adv Christel van Wyk guided attendees on remedies and steps to follow to ensure objections and disclosures were accurately accepted by SARS in the most effective manner, thereby saving time and securing positive outcomes.

Webinar Content

  • Corrections: Guidance was provided on correcting tax return mistakes.

  • Voluntary Disclosure Programme: The requirements for a valid voluntary disclosure application were explained.

  • Requirements: Detailed criteria that needed to be met for each remedy were discussed.

  • Case Law: Relevant case law was discussed to provide context and precedent.

  • Practical Examples: Real-life scenarios were used to illustrate the application of each remedy.

  • Objections: Guidance was provided on how and when to file an objection to a tax assessment.

This webinar aimed to equip taxpayers and professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate tax corrections, voluntary disclosures, and objections effectively.
