This TaxCafé discussion forum will focus on resolving the current taxpayer issues experienced by tax practitioners. This discussion forum will provide an open dialogue and platform for tax practitioners to resolve current and “real-life” issues.

Overview

This webinar aimed to address the most pressing questions and concerns faced by taxpayers and tax practitioners this filing season. Carmen discussed a range of crucial topics, including the challenges posed by inadequate and late responses from SARS to queries, the common issue of SARS rejecting reasons for VAT assessments, and strategies for handling lapsed turnaround times from SARS. She also covered the requirements for PAYE deductions for individuals receiving commission on revenue and the importance of maintaining supportive documents. Additionally, the session provided insights into claiming medical expenses in 2024 and the necessary supporting documents required by SARS to substantiate company claims for assessed losses to avoid being ring-fenced. Furthermore, we discussed the process for claiming tax refunds for individuals earning below the minimum tax bracket and the responsibilities of accounting firms in submitting PAIA returns on behalf of their clients.
