Escaping the SARS and CIPC Compliance Efficiency Trap

Date: Feb 18, 2026

CPD hours: 2 Hours

Time: 15:00 - 17:00

Event Type: Webinar

Presenter: Nestene Botha

Over 30,3% of tax and accounting practices in South Africa are stagnant. The cause? An inability to recover the spiraling opportunity costs of SARS, CIPC, FIC, and UIF compliance. Efficient Practice Management is now the industry's #1 priority, but how do you actually achieve it?

Overview

This practical webinar explored how accounting and tax practices could automate and streamline SARS and CIPC compliance using digital workflows and AI. It covered the full compliance lifecycle—from client engagement and document intake to review and delivery—while showcasing leading South African software solutions. Participants gained actionable insights into reducing administrative burden, improving efficiency, and integrating AI into modern compliance practices.

Webinar Content

The webinar provided a comprehensive look at automating compliance for the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). It broke down the digital transformation of an accounting practice into eight core focus areas:

  • Engagement and Scheduling: The session demonstrated the move from basic letters to three-tier proposals using tech like Practice Ignition and ChatGPT to calculate billing.
  • Intake and Workpaper Prep: It highlighted utilizing software to build and follow up on document lists so they did not reach the professional team until complete. It also explored using AI Agents for PDF annotations.
  • Input and Review: The focus shifted from professional teams performing all data entry to AI Agents populating cloud software, followed by tiered reviews that included AI and administrative checks.
  • Delivery: This section showed how to enhance the final product with actionable steps and video explainers rather than just delivering paperwork.
  • Software Solutions: The webinar reviewed specific tools for the South African market, including:
    • Accfin AI Taxman & Cosec
    • DataGrows for workflow management
    • Fintura, an all-in-one AI platform
    • Konsise for SARS payment initiation and beneficial ownership calculations
    • GreatSoft for secretarial and tax management

Competencies Developed

Participants in this session developed the following professional competencies:

  • Digital Workflow Design: Understanding how to structure compliance processes to reduce administrative burden.
  • Technological Literacy: Gaining knowledge of modern tax and company secretarial software solutions specific to the South African regulatory environment.
  • AI Integration: Learning how to use ChatGPT Agents and custom GPTs to draft segments, prep lists, and review workpapers.
  • Practice Management: Developing strategies to "deskill" certain tasks, allowing administrative staff to drive schedules and software once established by the professional team.
  • Resource Utilization: Identifying official channels and video resources provided directly by SARS and the CIPC for ongoing compliance education.
