Understatement penalties were severe as the South African Revenue Service (SARS) used them to discourage taxpayers from under-declaring income or over-claiming expenses. These penalties, along with late payment penalties, often formed the subject matter of disputes with SARS.

In this webinar, Nico Theron CTA (SA), founder of Unicus Tax Specialists SA, guided participants through the process of understanding the grounds on which a penalty had been imposed, determining if the taxpayer had room to request a remission, and what to do if there were no grounds to request a remission.

Payments and cancellations

  • Only written notice of cancellation will be recognized.
  • Conditions:
    • If the cancellation occurs more than four working days prior to the event no cancellation fee will be charged.
    • If the cancellation occurs less than four working days prior to the event, a 100% cancellation fee will apply.
  • Delegates who book and fail to attend will be liable for the full event fee.
  • The Tax Faculty’s liability in the case of an event being cancelled will be limited to a refund or credit of the event fee.
